The process of writing becomes a part of the process of organizing knowledge and vice versa. - Actively considering a note in relation to various possible organizations involves comparing it contentfully with other notes as possible components of larger textual compositions. - Performing those comparisons involves thinking through the relation between the ideas present in each note. Thinking through the ways an idea relates to other ideas is a primary way of learning about those ideas and producing new knowledge. - In addition, notetaking software incorporates various ways of automatically suggesting relations between notes, including backlinks, graphs, and mind maps that visualize the connections between a writer's notes. ## References - Ahrens 2017, How to Take Smart Notes - Braaksma, Rijlaarsdam & Van den Bergh 2012," Hypertext Writing Learning and Transfer Effects" - Braaksma, Rijlaarsdam & Van den Bergh 2018, "Effects of Hypertext Writing and Observational Learning on Content Knowledge Acquisition, Self-efficacy, and Text Quality - Two Experimental Studies" - Braaksma, Rijlaarsdam, & Janssen 2007, "Writing Hypertexts Proposed Effects on Writing Processes and Knowledge Acquisition" - Lee 2017, "Construction of Meaning in Students’ Multimodal Hypertext Writing"
